This special type of chili grows in the tropics, but also occurs at higher altitudes. The Capsicum pubescens family is also known as Manzano in Latin America and is an integral part of the culinary culture. Rocotos are fundamentally different from other chilis, for example the seeds are black and these varieties also have more dihydrocapsaicin.  The pubescens plants tend to grow sideways in all directions and often have several main shoots. As soon as the first pods are formed, the branches start to hang down. This makes this chili ideal for hanging pots or for on a pedestal/raised bed or similar.
